Sally Jane Turner is a UK based photographic artist producing pet portraits of a quality and style just perfect for hanging on your wall. The paper and inks used have been specially selected for their fade resistance. Kept under normal lighting conditions these images will keep their colour clarity for 70 years or more.

The pet portraits are created from high resolution photographs that are then digitally art worked to create the final image. Sally has two UK bases, her main one is in Dartford, Kent, allowing easy access to most areas within the South East England and the other in the Vale of Evesham for clients in the West Midlands and beyond. Once a commission has been agreed the location for the photo-shoot can be arranged at a mutually convenient place in order to keep traveling expenses to a minimum.

Please note - There must be a competent handler present with the pet at the time of the photo-shoot. Also please make sure the pet is ready to be photographed on Sally's arrival as she is not responsible for grooming.

Several photographs will be taken during the photo-shoot and the most suitable will be selected for the final pet portrait. For comissions outside the UK or where it is not practical or possible to arrange a photo-shoot it might be possible to work from one of your own photographs. Please read this section on photograph submission.

Pet portraits can be created either with a natural background or a plain one depending on your preference. Sally can help you with this choice on the day of the photo-shoot. Generally, if a full body shot is required for a horse portrait then a natural background looks best but dog portraits look good either way. If just head shots are required for either dog or horse portraits then a plain background is recommended. The same applies to cat portraits as for dogs.

Once the artwork has been finished a proof image will be sent to you for approval. Some changes can be made at this stage if required.  Once the proof is approved the final portrait will be printed and mounted.

Mount colour may vary to best suit the image although, unless otherwise requested, they will be generally neutral colours so as to suit most rooms. If a specific mount colour is required please ask when placing the order.

In addition to the pet portraits Greetings Cards can also be created and ordered as required.

Portrait sizes are;

(A) Standard Landscape and portrait format images are mounted to fit in a 16x12 inch frame (45x30 cm),
(B) Standard Square format images are mounted to fit in a 12 inch (30cm) frame.
(C) Large Landscape and portrait format images are mounted to fit in a 20x16 inch frame.
(D) Large Square format images are mounted to fit in a 40x40cm frame.
(E) Small landscape and portrait format images are mounted to fit in a 14x11 inch frame (28x36cm) ideal for small pets such as rodents or budgerigars - see Small Pets Special Offer.
The shape depends on the subject and how well it fits in either a square or rectangular frame.

Price Guide

• Non exclusive standard size pet portraits either landscape, portrait or square - £50 or Large if £75
• Exclusive standard size pet portraits - £75 or Large is £12.50
• Small Portraits are charged at £38 non exclusive or £57 for exclusive.
• Small Pet Special Offer - Just £20 for a small portrait provided the pet is brought to Sally Jane in Wilmington near Dartford (full address supplied on booking) and it is for a non-exclusive portrait. Small pets are pets such as rodents, including hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, rabbits; birds up to parakeet size or reptiles such as tortoises, snakes or lizards.
• Multiple Pet Special Offer - Where more than one pet is to be added to a portrait an extra £15 (non-exclusive) or £22.50 (exclusive) will be added to the price for each additional pet.
• Multiple Portrait Special Offer - If more than one pet portrait is ordered on the day of the shoot a 25% discount will be applied to the total order. This is on a per customer basis.
• Limited Special Offer - Free Dog Frisbee with every new commission while stocks last.
• Traveling expenses and postage may be added in addition to the above prices where applicable.
• A £20 deposit is required on the day of the photo shoot for all portrait commissions.
• Re-prints can be ordered at any time and will be charged at a flat rate of £30 for Standard size or £40 for Large size. All reprints are sent out mounted.

Exclusive and Non Exclusive Pet Portraits

Non exclusive service. The image(s) may be reused for sale as a stock image for prints, on greetings cards, calendars or other such merchandise. For this reason they are 1/3rd cheaper than the full exclusive price.

Exclusive service. This means that the image will not be used for sale to any person other than the initial client. The image may however be used on the Sally Jane web site or in advertising literature.

Copyright in either case will remain the property of Sally Jane Turner.

Digital Paintings

Most of Sally's pet portraits are digitally enhanced photographs that result in a final image that has the appearance of a painting. Sally can also offer pet portraits as digital paintings. These are created using the same techniques as a traditional artist except a graphics tablet replaces the canvas and a stylus replaces the paintbrush or pencil. The image is 'painted' directly onto the computer. Each brush stroke is created manually just as in a traditional piece of work. These images will then be printed onto textured paper to further enhance to painting effect. This method is particularly suitable for dog portraits especially for dogs with long or wiry hair.
